Health is Wealth: The Alkaline Paleo Diet for Prosperity

That, in essence, is the theory of acid and alkaline.

It is simple and straight-forward.

Fruits and vegetables are rich in alkaline elements like potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium. So fruits and vegetables are actually alkaline-forming or alkaline foods. If we eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, our bodies become more alkaline.

Meat, eggs and other high protein foods produce uric acid when digested. High-protein foods are acid-forming.

What is important is the final outcome – whether a food is acid-forming or alkaline-forming, not whether or not it tastes acidic.

Acid-forming foods include:

  • Most chemical and drugs
  • Sugar
  • Alcohol
  • Fats and oils
  • Nuts
  • Beans
  • Grains and flour products
  • Fish
  • Meat
  • Eggs

Alkaline forming foods include:

  • Honey
  • Coffee and tea
  • Spices
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Seeds
  • Seaweeds
  • Soy sauce, miso etc
  • Salt

We need both categories of foods for good health, with slightly greater emphasis on alkaline-forming or alkaline foods.

One of the best alkaline foods is the Japanese pickled sour plum, umeboshi. It is reputed king of alkaline-forming foods, as it has very powerful alkaline-forming effects. Umeboshi was claimed to cure over a hundred different diseases. This may seem far-fetched if we think of a hundred diseases having a hundred different causes. If we think of them as basically caused by an acidic condition, then umeboshi could well cure all of them.
