Dendreon Perfect Storm

Some analysts forecast Provenge will eventually achieve industry blockbuster status of more than a billion dollars a year in sales.

Provenge is given in three doses over the course of one month. Some patients in the study reported temporary flu-like symptoms after each treatment.

Harvard Medical School professor Dr. Philip Kantoff, one of the study’s lead investigators at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, calls the results “significant and incremental,” but says patients should understand that Provenge is a cancer treatment and not a cure.

Dr. Kantoff received a one-time consulting fee from Dendreon a few years ago.

Dendreon CEO Dr. Mitchell Gold says, “Today’s results confirm the potential for Provenge in prostate cancer.”
