In our founding days, the President and Vice President could be from different parties, perhaps a better system of political checks and balances for the American People.

In 1800, Vice President Jefferson ran for President against Federalists President John Adams and Aaron Burr.

Jefferson tied with Aaron in the Electoral College Vote, both ahead of John Adams.

Federalist Central Banker Alexander Hamilton, of all people, opposed fellow Federalist Burr, and negotiated for Republican Jefferson as President with the Senate. Burr repaid the affront by killing Hamilton in a duel.

Hamilton’s Federalist party was weakened. The idea of high taxes and a central bank resurfaced with the Whigs, who also supported slavery.
